As we plan for the year ahead, we are highlighting notable tax dates to make sure that our clients can keep track of important deadlines. Be prepared for the following filing dates in 2022.

INDIVIDUAL TAX RETURN DUE DATES

Individual Returns/Extensions: due April 18th. April 15th, 2022 falls on Emancipation Day. Although 4/15 is usually Tax Day, government authorities will be closed that day in honor of the day that slavery was abolished in the United States. The holiday has therefore pushed the due date for individual tax filings to Monday, April 18th, 2022. If you require additional time for tax preparation, you will also need to file an extension request by this date. Keep in mind that your final tax payments to both Federal and state authorities will need to be made by this date as the extension only applies to the tax return filing, but not the final tax due.

Extended Returns: due October 17th. The final deadline (if you requested an extension in April) for filing individual returns is October 17th, 2022.

Realize CPA’s Document Deadline: March 15th. We are in the process of sending organizers and/or document information requests to assist you in gathering the tax documents necessary to complete your filings. We strongly encourage all of our clients to review the opening questionnaire, which will cover any notable tax issues that may be critical for your tax planning needs. We ask that you submit a majority of your tax materials to us by March 15th, 2022 if you want your return to be filed by the April 18thdeadline. If we do not receive your supporting documents by 3/15, we cannot guarantee filing, and an extension may be necessary.
